How should a helmet fit?

when trying on helmets, what are some things to look for that may mean some discomfort later down the road?
do helmets form to your head as you wear them?

personal experience? thanks!!

I personally like Charles Owen helmets…

Your helmet should fit your head snugly (but not cutting of circulation) when worn AS YOU WOULD AT A SHOW… so if you put your hair up, or wear a hairnet, at a show you should do your hair the SAME way when you try on helmets… it is AMAZING how much your hairstyle can change the way your helmet feels….

Your helmet should sit straight on your head and cover your brain stem (bottom of skull) and not interfere with your vision. WITHOUT the strap connected you should be able to slowly flip your head upside down and your helmet should stay on for a few seconds. (if you shake your head and it comes off that doesn’t count!)

Some helmets are built to fit round heads, others egg-shaped heads, oval heads, etc… so you have to simply go to a tack store and try them all on! Remember it is supposed to be FUN!

**EDIT** When you grab the “bill” and lightly pull up and down it should pull your eyebrows with it when it moves… it shouldn’t actually move on or off your head – instead it should move only as much as your skin will allow it….
